Greater energy efficiency
3% lower fuel consumption per truck, i.e. saving over 1,500 liters of fuel, or more than 2,000 euros, per year. In addition, 4.2 metric tons fewer CO2 emissions per truck per year. That is the success story so far of the predictive cruise control system "Scania Cruise Control with Active Prediction" provided by truck manufacturer Scania. At the heart of the system is the Continental eHorizon, which was made in close cooperation with "HERE," the provider of navigation maps and services.
The adaptive cruise control supplies the 3D profile of the driving route based on topographical map data, the digital map from HERE, and the GPS signal. The vehicle speed can then be automatically adjusted to the route ahead. Acceleration is applied just before an incline, optimally utilizing the available torque and requiring fewer gearshifts. Before a downhill gradient, the speed is reduced in order to utilize the vehicle's downhill acceleration as effectively as possible.
