In a first project, camera and radar data from a fleet of vehicles was imported into the CAEdge framework and used for virtual simulations of highly automated driving. For processing these huge amounts of data, the CAEdge framework provides a powerful development environment that supports all steps in the development of highly automated and autonomous driving systems: from sensor data acquisition and processing to data management, model training and virtual simulations, and vehicle software updates. As a result, individual development steps that used to take several weeks due to the effort required to transfer data and train algorithms can be completed in just a few hours. This is made possible by the scalable computing capacities of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and by machine learning.

With the CAEdge framework, Continental's customers benefit from a network designed to protect their information, identities, applications, and devices. This means that an automotive manufacturer developing a new product solution, has exclusive access to the data and can grant access rights to other companies - including Continental - or another development partner.
Around 20,000 of the more than 51,000 engineers working at Continental are already experts in the fields of software and IT. In the field of AI, Continental already employs more than 900 experts, and this figure will rise in the coming years. Continental is the first automotive supplier ever to supply a central Body High-Performance Computer for the production vehicle of a major manufacturer.
