Continental’s shunt/magnetic-based current sensor is used in automotive applications such as high voltage Battery Management Systems (BMS) for electric or hybrid electric vehicles. The Current Sensor Module (CSM) provides information about factors such as current and temperature to the BMS Electronic Control Unit through a CAN interface. The CSM features a compact design with integrated bus bar, which is fit for high voltage battery systems of 400V/800V, including the galvanic isolation of high voltage and low voltage paths. It also supports up to ASIL level D at system level. It also can be used in fuel cell vehicles to monitor either the battery or the fuel cell current.
The CSM has a current measurement ranging up to ± 2,000 A, with accuracy of ± 1.0 percent and ambient temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C. The temperature measurement range is from -40 °C to +125 °C.
