Augmented Reality HUD
Seamless integration of warnings and messages in the surrounding
In the near future augmented reality (AR) head-up displays will help to make driving even more comfortable and safe. Compared to traditional windshield HUD, the image is enriched with a layer of information right on the street in front of the car. When navigating, for example, a virtual symbol inserted precisely into the exterior view marks the route that the driver should follow on the road ahead. The waveguide technology is an innovative technology currently under development that will help realize head-up displays with drastically reduced packaging volume. It will need less space while at the same time providing a larger image with all the relevant information. The augmented reality HUD is a key technology for automated driving.
