The Gateway transmits data between various bus systems and evaluates them. As the higher level network master it coordinates the engine compartment bus, interior bus, optical bus for multimedia and diagnostic bus for maintenance. Additionally, the Gateway can act as a host for additional applications and functions such as vehicle energy management or vehicle power mode centrally. Furthermore, the level of security of an in-vehicle architecture can be increased.
