Our Cruising Chauffeur will be going into series production as Highway Pilot
The intensive development work on the future of automated driving is paying off. Continental will launch the function of Cruising Chauffeur for a major German car manufacturer under the name of Highway Pilot.

Scope of the project Highway Pilot
Continental will be supplying a complete package consisting of hardware, in this case sensors, the ADCU (Assisted & Automated Driving Control Unit), as well as software. The driver observation in the interior is also part of the project. With this project, Continental will realize highly automated driving in production vehicles and thus has come a great deal closer to its Vision Zero, the vision of accident-free driving.

Production start of the project
The system will be scalable and will start in series production at SAE [1] Level 3, but is soon after to be upgradeable to SAE Level 4. For the driver, this means that in SAE Level 3 he can lean back in defined applications (for example, driving on the highway) and only needs to be available as a fallback when requested to do so by the system. An even greater level of autonomy is then achieved at SAE Level 4. Here the driver is not required for monitoring or as a fallback in the given framework. The driver can travel from A to B easily and relaxed.
